Aan de oever van een snelle vliet lyrics

De Komst is coming to an end.

I thought the idea of Vlahos singing a sad song  to Karina would be a perfect scene for the end,

then i found this one song, 'Aan de oever van een snelle vliet' means

 'a sorrowful girl who sat by the bank of the river'

This is originally a german song, but then translated into dutch. The original name was 'An einem Fluss der rauschend Schoss' in German and was published anonymously in 1781. The oldest Dutch version dates back to the beginning of the nineteenth century. The song was passed on in many songbooks and magazines and remained popular until the early twentieth century. 

The story itself is about by the banks of a rapid brook sits a grieving orphan girl. A passing gentleman asks her what is wrong. She directs him to her mother's grave and tells him of the death of her father and brother, who both drowned in this brook. The gentleman takes her home with him and offers her a good life.

Simple, but i don't know somehow this song is just prefectly suits for Vlahos & Karina. Maybe it's because the story is just so similar (which in my case, Karina is an orphan girl) and Vlahos offer her a good life. 

It's just so... coincidence that until now, i couldn't believe it by myself. 

I found it's really hard to find the complete lyrics but well, i found it :

Hij gaf haar kleren naar zijn stand voor weesjes kleren aan

Zij at zijn spijs, zij dronk zijn drank, gestadig, dag bij dag.
Heb dank, o edel brave man, voor zo een goed gedrag.

Malang Tempoe doeloe 1930 : Colonialism Era

Throwing back to Malang in 1930,

still rich with its colonialism building, 

the age when our land still in dutchmen hands.

The age where Karina & Vlahos live (read our novel 'De Komst' here first!)

happily in their lovely house in Idjen Boulevard area.

I got the pictures from 'Tropenmuseum' museum in netherland,

They got so many interesting collection, anyway!

And..nah, this is Idjen Boulevard.

The place where dutchmen and their family live...

(Including Vlahos & Karina too! And Heinrich & Pratiwi..)

they sell so many good vintage stuff just like jewelry, wayang, batik equipment, etc

 And this is 'Neutrale Lagere School' located in Jl.Dr.Soetomo 35 (now)

This school originally dedicated for Dutch kids, that's why it named 'Neutrale School Vereeniging' or 'Europase Lagere School'.

The school right now has been bought by the catholic missionary after burnt down by inlander between 1940-1950 and now stand as 'Kolese Santo Yusuf'

It really hard to recognize it at first because this street totally looks so different!

Everything has changed.. and i have no idea which shop still stands right now...

well, umm maybe a shop in the left side of the photos... but still i doubt it :-/

(I think about it, actually. To put a scene where Vlahos and Karina walk around and bought so many local foods like Dawet *but i have no idea where to put this scene*)

seeing so many dutchmen in the street, people with kebaya,.. 

I know, basically as a 'real' Indonesian, we musn't think of this,

because we're the one who got really misery in this era.

But honestly,

i wanna be like Vlahos & Karina. For real :')

Yay! Finally got the title 

and it's..

De Komst ♥

De Komst means 'The arrival' or 'The future'

but i prefer 'The arrival' because it's all about the arrival of the dutchmen to Indonesia.

It took a long time to decide the title because i want something more, different, and bold.

And finally, De Komst is the final answer and i do really excited with that :)

Ah, and this is what i doodled when i was in class during the indonesian language lesson ( I know, ain't nobody got time for that)

There are always songs for the mood whenever i write stories 

and now it's time for 'De Komst', my latest novel with fifi playlist i shared with you :)

Because the setting came from 1930-1940,

it's actually pretty hard to find the actual song from this year,

so i just picked some from the classic world war 2 albums
(specially from G.I Jukebox : songs from world war 2 you can hear it here and Classic songs from WWII)

Nah. And here it's my favourite album of all :

If you read my novel, and found any songs that i meant in the books, i picked up mostly from this album :)

There is also the volume one and it's called :

But i didn't really listen to this part. I prefer the second one.

Dutch nationality anthem, i really love the song :) first heard of this anthem from 'Oeroeg' movie, this anthem really takes me back to the colonialism era, reminds me a lot of the dutchmen. 

2. I Don't Walk without You - Dinah Shore

This song featured in 'De Komst chapter 21' when Karina & Vlahos did the ballroom dance together :') i really love the mood. Very lovely and.. romantic. Actually all of Dinah shore's song isn't fit with the year.. but well.. have no choice. This song is just way too great.

3. He Wears a pair of Silver Wings - Dinah Shore

Featured in 'De Komst chapter 19 when Vlahos takes the dance with Astoria. I took this because this song is just really fit with what Astoria think about Vlahos :) 

And this is what i love from the lyrics :

Ah! All vera lynn's song are great but this one is my favourite! I really love dame vera's beautiful voice

 & the orchestra! really beautiful :') 

5. Always in my heart - Hal McIntyre & his orchestra

Sweet, Dramatic, and full of orchestra. This song is really suits with the mood, altough it's written for world war 2 (well, not really into my story..) but i really love how Hal describes the feeling.. wonderful !

Col. Vincent Van Vlahos

Bold, serious  & tough guy.  He doesn't talk much, doesn't ask for help, and never let anyone see him upset. Doesn't talk about trivial things, and always get to the point. Likes to be unpredictable, but sometimes that's what makes him cause resentment.

Usually called by 'Vlahos', recently being assigned to Malang, Indonesia as a weapon specialist and ranked as Colonel. He has bright blonde hair and pure blue eyes. He also has a maid (not a maid actually, because vlahos forced her to work for him) named Karina. But, as you know, Karina do have a really tough mind like Vlahos and everything always ended up not very well.

Vlahos only one friend. Loves Indonesia and always persuade him to understand the love of this country. Heinrich is the type of friend who understand a lot about his friend, including feelings & what to do. 

Sweet, temptating, and likes to smile. Heinrich is the kind of guy who'll get girls easily. He has emerald green eyes & hazel hair.

Worked in the same division as Vlahos, it is told that Heinrich has been experienced more in Indonesia than Vlahos. And that's why what makes him lovestruck with this country. He enjoys everything, specially girls, cuisine, whiskey, and jokes. He also has girl named Pratiwi, which's found that she's Karina's friend.

Vlahos feeling sick

I hate being sick.

It has been a week i got my cough & pain all over my body.

And i got a mid exam.

So, yes, I'm feeling really sick with all of this.

Not just because of my cough, but also because the pressure i got in the class.

I know, it's only 4 months again we'll have the final 'final exam'

but, can't they just take it easy?

Well, dear my friend,

Study is like a game.

It'll be a really fun if you just take it easy,

but in the same time you're doing it good.

How i wish i could study abroad !

and in a parallel world, Vlahos is being sick too
i know it's funny, since vlahos is only my fiction character,
but i wrote him sick before i got sick.
So this means, indirectly, i got my disease from Vlahos HAHAHA

Poor my Vlavla.
He got so much mind right now.
same like me.
But he got Karina.
and i got nobody *yet*

Hey Everyone!

Yeap, it's a duet story again & the story sets on Indonesia in Colonialism era!

It's a rare and new genre for us, but well, it's not just about history, it's about romance *again*

The main character is Vlahos (the dutch, the colonialist) and Karina, the indigenous-rebel girl.

As always, i wrote the boy viewpoint, and fifi did the girl.
